1980–1989
The company's territory quickly expands to everything east of the Mississippi after deregulation. Desktop computers show up just in time to handle the much greater volume of business, and the third generation of the Estes family becomes more involved in the business.
1980
Interstate Partial Deregulation
This legislation frees the company up to grow at its own rate. The need to buy other carriers in order to expand is no longer necessary. Estes immediately applies for operating authority east of the Mississippi River.

1984
First Desktop Computers
Desktop computers make their debut in both the terminals and the home office.

1987
Robey W. Estes, Jr., Becomes General Manager
W.W.'s grandson, Robey, Jr. (Rob), assumes a more active role in the company as general manager.
