Commercial cargo activity has now resumed in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Two factors remain challenging: 1) less than 20% of the island currently has electricity, and 2) many roads and bridges have been badly damaged. However, many businesses have backup generators, and most are using cell phones as a means of communication. We are currently loading shipments to Puerto Rico if we can confirm that Puerto Rico recipients are able to receive their goods upon arrival and can get to the Puerto Rico tax office to pay taxes on their goods. For additional information regarding specific Puerto Rico shipments, please contact your local Estes terminal.
Multiple earthquakes also shook Mexico in late September, and thousands of buildings, roads and other structures were damaged. As a result, service in and around Mexico City may be delayed.
