Supporting the communities that support us
We believe in giving back to the communities we serve. Here are a few ways we’ve done so.
Puerto Rico recovery
About 100 Estes employees worked onsite in Puerto Rico to assist with the island’s recovery efforts following 2017’s Hurricane Maria. Their primary mission was to deliver vital supplies from FEMA warehouses. But during their off-duty hours, many volunteered their skills to repair children’s-home facilities in three communities. According to the overseer of one of the storm-damaged properties, these Estes employees were literally the answer to her prayers.
In early 2019, Estes donated $1 million to charities that meant the most to employees. Through a nomination and voting process, teammates selected 20 charities that represented a wide variety of causes – children, health, seniors, pets, and veterans. Presentation checks were shipped through the Estes system, allowing employees at each stop to write personal messages before they were presented to non-profit organizations across the country. At the heart of the program were the connections between our teammates and the communities they serve, the causes they believe in, and between each other as we discovered shared passions.
“This giving campaign is one way Estes can show our commitment to improving our communities and caring for our employees. We could think of no better way to start 2019 off right than by having these employee-directed donation checks as some of the first freight we shipped. This is a testament to our employees’ spirit and the appreciation Estes has for them.”
- Rob Estes, President and CEO
Supporting our troops
Estes employees have a long-standing history of supporting and honoring our military. Estes is proud to work with worthwhile support organizations for outreach to active-duty U.S. service members and in remembrance of those who have given their lives to defend our freedoms. Over the years, Estes has worked to collect and deliver care-package items for U.S. service men and women deployed in combat and disaster-relief zones around the world in time for Christmas.
Estes also supports Wreaths Across America (WAA) to help remember the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who gave their lives to preserve our nation’s freedoms. Each December, WAA coordinates the laying of thousands of fresh evergreen holiday wreaths on gravesites to honor fallen veterans at more than 750 cemeteries nationwide, and Estes has been part of the delivery team since 2011.
These community efforts spring from a genuine gratitude for the sacrifices made by America’s men and women in uniform. Expressing that gratitude through outreach opportunities such as these represents a small though important way we can Encourage the Living, Honor the Fallen.
Grassroots community involvement
The spirit of giving is strong among Estes employees, and they often lead the way in giving back to each of the communities where Estes is located. Many of our terminals choose to support the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. Every year, there’s an outpouring of generosity from our employees as they donate toys for children whose families cannot afford gifts. Other terminals celebrate the holidays by giving back by adopting a family or through Angel Tree. The teamwork and family-inspired values that are such a foundational part of our culture are evident in the success of our employees’ community efforts.
